Counselling & Psychotherapy with Shaen Milward - Ivybridge & Online

Westcountry Therapy

Counselling and psychotherapy for grief, loss and life’s turning points, in person in Ivybridge and online across the UK.

‘Physis’ - Therapy grounded in the belief that change and growth are possible

I offer grounded, thoughtful counselling and psychotherapy, in person in the South Hams and online across the UK. I am a UKCP Trainee Psychotherapist, born and raised locally, and I am also registered with the HCPC as an Occupational Therapist.

I work to the ethical framework and professional standards of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). For many people, knowing this can make the first step feel a little safer.

I spent more than twenty years in health and care before training as a psychotherapist, much of it in hospice and end-of-life work, including senior NHS roles. I work with adults of all ages, offering a steady, reflective space for grief, loss, and the things that feel difficult to carry alone.

My aim is to offer a space where there is no need for performance or pretence, and where you can come exactly as you are.

Therapy In The South Hams

With over 20 years of experience in health and care, I offer grounded, thoughtful therapy rooted in this area, with an approach that is steady, genuine, and without pretence.

Reasons people come to therapy

You might be here because something in life no longer feels as it should. Perhaps you are living with grief that has stayed close for a long time, whether following a death or another kind of loss. Loss takes many forms, and it is not always a bereavement; sometimes it is an illness, an ending, a change in what you can do, or the slow disappearance of a life you expected to have. You may be feeling stuck or dissatisfied in ways that are hard to explain, carrying thoughts and feelings you have never found an easy place to put, or struggling in relationships. Perhaps you feel flat or disconnected, or you are simply aware that life looks manageable from the outside but does not feel that way inside. For some men, it can also be about wanting support without quite knowing how to begin.

How I work

I offer therapy in a way that is relational, thoughtful and shaped between us over time. There is no need to rush or arrive with everything clearly worked out. We can begin with what feels most present, and work at a pace that feels manageable.

I see therapy as something we work on together, rather than something done to you. This means paying attention to what you bring, how we make sense of it together, and what gradually becomes clearer through the conversation.

Some people come for a few months, to work through something specific. Others stay longer, because what is troubling them now often began much earlier, and needs more room to understand. Both are welcome, and we find what is right for you as we go.

Areas I work with

Location and practicalities

I work from my own private therapy room on the edge of Ivybridge.  I also work online with people across the UK, for those further away or who simply prefer it. The space is quiet, spacious, and confidential, with ample free parking and the privacy of not waiting alongside other clients. Having my own room also gives us consistency and flexibility around meeting times. My aim is to offer a space that feels calm, private, and set apart from the pressures of everyday life.  Sessions are £55, and the initial call is free.

If what you have read feels like it may be the right kind of space for you, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange a free initial conversation.
