Counselling & Psychotherapy with Shaen Milward - Ivybridge & Online

Yes, absolutely. It is important that therapy feels like the right fit for both of us, which is why I offer an introductory telephone call before we agree to work together. This gives you the chance to ask any questions, get a sense of how I work, and see whether it feels like the right space for you.

I am a UKCP Trainee Psychotherapistt; I am in the final stages of a four year training journey. I am also a member of UKATA, the UK Association for Transactional Analysis. Alongside this, I receive intensive supervision as part of my practice, with one hour of supervision for every six hours of therapy I deliver.

That is completely okay. Therapy is a space where you do not have to hide how you are feeling or try to keep everything together. If you become upset, we can slow things down, stay with what is happening, and work with it together.
My fee is £55 per session. Sessions last for 50 minutes.
I am based in Ivybridge, in the heart of the South Hams, on the edge of Dartmoor. I have my own therapy room, which gives me good flexibility around appointment times, including daytime and evening sessions. I mostly work in person, although online sessions are also possible where needed.
Yes. I am able to work online with those clients who live at a distance, or if you (or I) are away for a period. However, I mostly work ‘in person’.

If you are ever unhappy with our work together, please tell me first if you feel able to. Most concerns can be resolved through an honest conversation. If you would rather not raise it with me, or remain unsatisfied, you can contact my training organisation, Connexus Institute (www.connexusinstitute.com), who handle complaints about trainees. As a UKCP trainee I work to the ethical standards of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP); more at: https://www.psychotherapy.org.uk/ukcp-members/complaints/how-to-make-a-complaint/

If your concern is about how I have handled your personal data, you have the right to raise it with me directly, and I will acknowledge it within 30 days. If you remain unhappy, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at www.ico.org.uk.

Yes. However, if you cancel with less than 48hrs notice, you will be charged for the session.

I am registered with the UK Information Commissioners Office (ICO Number: ZB890718). If we decide to work together, I will ask you to sign a contract. My cookie policy can be found HERE, and my privacy policy can be found HERE.

Confidentiality is a central part of therapy, and what you share with me will be treated with care and respect. As part of ethical practice, therapists receive supervision and may discuss aspects of their work with a registered, professional, BACP/UKCP supervisor. In exceptional circumstances, such as serious risk or safeguarding concerns, I may need to share essential information with relevant professionals, such as your GP.
Most often, therapy takes place weekly, especially at the beginning, as this helps build consistency and gives the work space to develop. In some circumstances, we may agree a different rhythm together depending on your needs, availability, and what feels manageable.
I can support people through difficult times, including periods of distress, overwhelm, and emotional struggle. Therapy can be a steady and containing space when life feels hard. However, I am not a crisis service and I am not set up to provide emergency or immediate crisis support. If you are in immediate danger, or need urgent help, it is important to seek support from an appropriate crisis service.
